After Yang is a science fiction drama film directed by Kogonada. The film is based on the short story "Saying Goodbye to Yang" by Alexander Weinstein.
The film is set in the near future and follows a family who own an android named Yang. Yang is not an ordinary android, but a member of the family, loved by their daughter and everyone who knows him. But, one day, Yang malfunctions and begins to malfunction in strange ways, prompting the family to embark on a journey to fix him.
As they search for a cure for Yang's malfunction, the family learns more about their own lives and relationships. Jake, the father, begins to reconnect with his wife, while his daughter discovers more about herself and the world around her. Along the way, the family meets other people with androids of their own, and they learn more about the emotional connections people can form with non-human objects.
Ultimately, the family fixes Yang, but not before they learn more about themselves and the world around them. The film explores themes of love, loss, and the nature of humanity in a futuristic world where relationships with non-human objects are becoming common.
