Drama,Fantasy,Science Fiction,Thriller  United States of America

After the Dark, also known as The Philosophers, is a 2013 science-fiction psychological thriller film directed by John Huddles. The film is set at an international school in Jakarta where a philosophy teacher, Mr. Zimit, challenges his class of twenty graduating seniors to choose which ten of them would take shelter underground and reboot the human race in the event of a nuclear apocalypse. The twist in the challenge is that each student must justify their decision based on their skills, abilities, and personal values while also considering the potential consequences of their choices.

As the students begin playing the game, they soon realize that their decisions have real-life consequences when Mr. Zimit takes on the role of the controller, forcing the students to confront the harsh realities of their choices. As tensions rise and alliances are formed, the students must also contend with outside factors such as a looming nuclear threat and the possibility of sabotage from within their own group.

Throughout the film, flashbacks reveal the personal lives and relationships of the students, adding a layer of complexity to their decisions in the game. The film's climax sees the students face their ultimate fate as they make their final choices and emerge from the underground shelter to confront the aftermath of a devastating nuclear attack.

After the Dark features a talented ensemble cast, including James D'Arcy, Sophie Lowe, Daryl Sabara, Bonnie Wright, and Rhys Wakefield. The film received mixed reviews, with praise for its thought-provoking concept and performances, but criticism for its execution and pacing. However, the film has gained a cult following among fans of existential and philosophical films.
