Adú

Drama  Spain

Adú is a Spanish drama film directed by Salvador Calvo and released in 2020. The film intertwines three different stories that take place in different parts of the world but are connected by the central theme of migration and the challenges it presents.

The first storyline centers around a young boy named Adú and his sister who are trying to reach Europe from Cameroon. They hope to sneak into the cargo hold of a plane and make the dangerous journey across the sea. Adú faces constant danger and uncertainty but is determined to make it to Europe to escape the poverty and violence in his home country.

The second storyline follows an environmental activist named Gonzalo, who is devastated by the loss of a majestic elephant. He is determined to stop poaching and protect the animals that he loves. However, he struggles to balance his commitment to his cause with his responsibilities to his daughter who has arrived from Spain and has her own set of challenges.

The third storyline takes place in the Spanish enclave of Melilla, where civil guards are preparing to face a group of sub-Saharan migrants attempting to cross the border fence. The guards are conflicted about arresting the migrants as they know the difficult circumstances that led them to risk everything to reach Europe.

As the three storylines unfold, they become intertwined, and the characters' lives become forever changed. Adú explores difficult topics such as migration, poverty, and environmental activism, and offers a nuanced and emotional look at the challenges faced by people around the world.
