In A Walk to Remember, Landon and Jamie are classmates who come from very different backgrounds. Landon is the popular, handsome bad boy who's never been in trouble, while Jamie is the quiet, religious girl who's often thought of as an outcast. After Landon and his friends play a dangerous prank that causes a student to be injured, he is assigned to community service, which leads him to become involved in the school play alongside Jamie.
Initially, Landon is reluctant to participate in the play, but as he spends time with Jamie, he begins to fall in love with her. Jamie is unlike any other girl Landon has ever met and he's drawn to her kind and selfless nature. They start spending more and more time together, and eventually, Landon confesses his love for Jamie. Jamie tells Landon that she loves him too but that she has leukemia.
