In A Very Merry Toy Store, the two rival toy shop owners are Connie Forrester (played by Melissa Joan Hart) and Will DiNova (played by Mario Lopez). They have been competing against each other for years but their businesses are struggling as a result of the recession. However, they are shocked when they find out that a big box toy store called Roy's Toys is opening up in their town, just in time for the holiday season.
Roy (played by Brian Dennehy), the owner of the chain, is ruthless and will stop at nothing to put the small toy shops out of business. Connie and Will decide to form an alliance to save their stores and their community.
Their plan is to host a big holiday festival to attract customers to their stores instead of Roy's Toys. The festival includes a gingerbread making contest, a Christmas tree decorating competition, and a visit from Santa Claus. However, their efforts are undermined by Roy, who tries to sabotage the festival in order to drive the small toy shops out of business.
Along the way, Connie and Will start to find common ground and even develop feelings for each other. They discover that their rivalry was never really about the toy shops, but about personal grudges from the past. They put their differences aside to save their businesses and the festival becomes a huge success.
In the end, Roy's Toys is closed down due to unethical business practices and Connie and Will's toy shops become more popular than ever before. The two toy store owners also fall in love and decide to celebrate the holiday season together.
