The movie takes place in the waters of an atoll, where Sammy and Ray are living with their friends. The atoll is a beautiful and peaceful place where hatchlings are born and raised safely. One day, a group of poachers come and take Sammy, Ray, and two new hatchlings, Ricky and Ella, away to a luxurious aquarium in Dubai.
In the aquarium, they are introduced to Big D, a seahorse who runs the aquarium and has his own agenda. Big D enlists Sammy and Ray in his plan to escape, but they also make new friends in the aquarium, including Jimbo the blobfish, Lulu the lobster, and Annabel the octopus. Together, they form a plan to escape the aquarium and get back to their home in the atoll.
The plot of the movie revolves around the adventures and obstacles that the group faces while trying to escape from the aquarium and get back home. There are thrilling chase scenes, narrow escapes, and heartwarming moments of friendship and courage.
