The movie A Touch of Spice begins with Fanis, a successful chef in Athens, reminiscing about his childhood in Istanbul and his grandfather's teachings about cooking and life. He decides to return to his birthplace to reconnect with his grandfather and childhood love, Saime.
Through a series of flashbacks, we see Fanis growing up in Istanbul with his widowed mother and his grandfather, who runs a spice shop and teaches Fanis about the importance of combining spices to create delicious flavors. Fanis also learns about love and loss when Saime's family moves away and he is left heartbroken.
As an adult, Fanis uses his cooking skills to bring joy to others, including his mother, who suffers from Alzheimer's disease. But upon returning to Istanbul, Fanis realizes that he has neglected to add some spice to his own life. He reconnects with Saime, who is now married with children, and also faces his own unresolved feelings towards his mother's illness and his grandfather's mortality.
A Touch of Spice is a heartwarming story about love, family, and the power of food to bring people together. The film features stunning shots of Istanbul and its vibrant food culture, as well as a moving performance by Fanis' grandfather, played by acclaimed Greek actor Tassos Bandis.
