A Thread of Deceit: The Hart Family Tragedy is a 2019 documentary by filmmaker Stephanie Schwam. The movie tells the story of the tragic and mysterious death of the Hart family, which disaster struck when they plunged off a cliff in Northern California in 2018.
The Hart family was composed of Sarah and Jennifer Hart, former foster parents who adopted six children from Texas. The family became famous for their activism and promotion of social justice. Their story was portrayed as a modern-day fairy tale, as two women rescued neglected kids from the foster system and provided them with the loving home they deserved.
However, after their tragic deaths, investigations discovered that the reality of the Hart family was not as idyllic as it appeared. The movie explores the disturbing allegations of abuse, neglect, and racism that the Hart children experienced, which resulted in their ultimate deaths. Moreover, it exposes the lengths to which Sarah and Jennifer went to conceal the truth and present a false image of their perfect family.
