A Sound of Thunder is a science fiction thriller film released in 2005, directed by Peter Hyams. The movie is loosely based on the short story by Ray Bradbury of the same name.

The story follows a specialized company of time travelers called Time Safari, Inc., who take wealthy clients back in time to hunt extinct species. They go 65 million years back in time, to the Late Cretaceous period, to hunt a Tyrannosaurus rex.

The rules of time travel are strict: they must stay on the path, not touch anything, and must not leave any footprint. However, things quickly go wrong when one of the hunters, Travis Ryer (played by Edward Burns), accidentally steps off the path. He kills a butterfly, which, it turns out, causes a chain reaction that drastically alters historical events in the present.

When the team returns, they find the world very different from the one they left. The effects of the butterfly's death have rippled up the timeline and have created new, deadly creatures. The world is now a dystopian version of itself, and the whole human race is in danger.

Travis and his team race against time to try and fix their mistake before it's too late. They must go back in time and attempt to repair the ripple that caused the catastrophic changes in history.

The film features an impressive cast, including Ben Kingsley as the founder of Time Safari, Catherine McCormack as Ryer's colleague, and Jemima Rooper as the team's technician. Although it was not critically acclaimed, it is still an entertaining and thrilling science fiction story that explores the consequences of time travel and the butterfly effect.
