As the snow begins to fall, the newly established therapist, Dr. Maya White, encounters several unique and fascinating characters who eventually become her patients. Maya quickly learns that she must adapt to a new style of therapy, as her patients come from different walks of life and have experienced trauma that is often ignored and misunderstood.

One patient is a struggling artist who is dealing with PTSD from a violent home invasion. Another patient is a young, black, gay man who is navigating the ups and downs of coming out to his family and community. Maya also meets a pregnant woman who is dealing with depression and anxiety due to her partner being incarcerated.

As Maya starts to make headway with her patients, she realizes that the community around her is dealing with its own emotional struggles. Maya discovers the neighborhood is undergoing gentrification and many of the locals are frightened about the impact it will have on their community. Maya then starts to use her training to help the community come together and confront the changes that are occurring.

However, as Maya becomes more invested in helping the community, she must also confront her own emotional trauma and unresolved feelings towards her ex-boyfriend and former business partner. With the support of her new patients and a strong sense of community, Maya is able to grow and heal, both personally and professionally.

A Snowy Day in Oakland is a heart-warming story of community, resilience, and emotional healing in the face of change.
