Blood Money: A Greed Story

Crime,Thriller  United States of America

A Simple Plan is a 1998 thriller directed by Sam Raimi and starring Bill Paxton, Billy Bob Thornton, and Bridget Fonda. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Scott Smith.

Set in rural Minnesota during the winter, the story follows two brothers, Hank and Jacob Mitchell, along with Jacob's friend Lou Chamberlain. While out hunting, they discover a crashed plane containing over $4 million in cash. Tempted by the idea of becoming wealthy, the trio decides to keep the money for themselves, devising a plan to conceal its origin and spend it gradually over time.

However, their simple plan quickly falls apart as paranoia and greed set in. Hank, who had been content with his quiet life, finds himself becoming increasingly obsessed with the money and irrationally suspicious of everyone around him. Meanwhile, Lou's erratic behavior raises red flags, and when a local police officer begins investigating the missing plane, the trio realizes they may not be able to keep their secret much longer.

As tensions rise and relationships are strained, the characters' true nature is revealed, and their initial plan turns into a nightmarish spiral of betrayal, violence, and tragedy.

A Simple Plan was praised for its intense, suspenseful atmosphere and strong performances, particularly from Thornton as the mentally challenged Jacob. The film was nominated for two Academy Awards, and is considered one of the best adaptations of a crime novel to film.
