A Serial Killer's Guide to Life is a British black comedy thriller movie directed by Staten Cousins Roe. The movie stars Katie Brayben as Louise Farnt, a frustrated personal assistant who obsessively consumes self-help videos and books. One day, she meets Val Stone (Poppy Roe), a self-proclaimed guru who preaches the benefits of killing people who hold her back. Louise is fascinated by Val's philosophy of self-improvement through murder, and the two women embark on a killing spree across the English countryside.
As Louise becomes more and more involved in Val's twisted world, she begins to question the authenticity of her teachings. But Val is not one to be questioned, and the two women's "relationship" takes a deadly turn. Louise must fight to maintain her sanity and escape Val's grasp before it's too late.
The film takes a satirical look at the booming self-help industry and the dangerous cult-like mentality that can arise from it. It is a darkly humorous exploration of the lengths people will go to for self-improvement, even if it means resorting to murder. The movie premiered at the London FrightFest Film Festival in 2019 and was released on various platforms, including Amazon Prime Video, in January 2020.
