A Prophet is a French crime drama film that follows the story of Malik El Djebena, a young Arab man who is sent to prison for six years. He is illiterate and has no family or friends on the outside world. On his first day in prison, he is immediately harassed and bullied by the other inmates.
Malik soon comes under the protection of a group of Corsican inmates, led by Cesar Luciani. Cesar makes Malik his servant, running errands and completing tasks for him. As Malik learns more about the inner workings of the prison and gains more confidence, he begins to manipulate the Corsican group to gain their trust and respect.
While in prison, Malik becomes involved in various criminal activities, including drug dealing and murder. He also develops relationships with other inmates, including Jordi, a Spanish Arab who becomes his friend and partner in crime.
As Malik rises in power and influence, he begins to see himself as a leader and begins to make plans for his future outside of prison. He becomes determined to become a successful criminal and break away from the Corsican group.
A Prophet is a powerful and intense film that explores themes of power, corruption, and loyalty. It was critically acclaimed and won several awards, including the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival.
