A Prayer for the Dying is a 1987 thriller film directed by Mike Hodges and starring Mickey Rourke, Liam Neeson, and Bob Hoskins. The movie is based on the novel of the same name written by Jack Higgins.

The story follows the life of Martin Fallon, a former IRA terrorist who is plagued by guilt after killing innocent people in one of his previous bombings. Now, he is living a peaceful life in a small town in England, working as a handyman in a church and trying to forget his past.

However, his life takes a dramatic turn when he witnesses a gangland killing in a pub and is soon pursued by a ruthless hitman, played by Neeson. To make matters worse, Fallon is diagnosed with tuberculosis, and the only chance of survival is a risky operation that he cannot afford.

Desperate for money, Fallon agrees to carry out one last job for a local gangster, played by Hoskins, in exchange for the cash he needs for the operation. But when the job goes wrong, Fallon finds himself on the run from both the police and the gangster's henchmen, with little hope of escaping alive.

A Prayer for the Dying is a tense and gritty thriller that explores themes of guilt, redemption, and the inevitable consequences of a life of violence and crime.
