Beth (played by an up-and-coming actress) is a young woman living in New York City who works as a waitress while trying to make it as an actress. One day, while walking to an audition, she is snapped by a photographer as she hurries across a busy street. She barely notices and continues on her way, but the image ends up on the cover of a popular magazine. Suddenly thrust into the limelight, Beth is stunned to find herself the focus of the media's attention.
As she becomes acclimated to her newfound fame, Beth starts to wonder who took the picture that has everyone talking. She tracks down the magazine's editor and presses him for information, but he is tight-lipped. Undeterred, she begins to investigate on her own, scouring the city for clues and interviewing anyone who might have seen the photographer on the day in question.
