In the film, Samantha Blake is a low-level employee at a fashion magazine who is frustrated with her lack of success. She decides to reinvent herself and sets out to become a top fashion model. She transforms her appearance and catches the eye of Steve Sherman, who mistakes her for a high-priced call girl.
Samantha goes along with the mistaken identity, hoping to use it to her advantage in the fashion world. As she and Steve spend more time together, they begin to develop feelings for each other. However, their relationship is complicated by the fact that Steve believes Samantha is a call girl.
Meanwhile, Samantha's transformation into a fashion model is met with resistance from her boss, played by Thelma Ritter. The two clash over Samantha's new image and the direction of the magazine.
