A Million Little Pieces is a biographical drama film based on the memoir of the same name by James Frey. The movie follows the story of a young writer named James (played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson), who is struggling with addiction to alcohol and drugs. He is kicked out of his apartment and wakes up on a plane with no recollection of how he got there. Upon arrival, he is taken to a rehab center in Minnesota to undergo a two-month detox process.

At the rehab center, James meets a group of fellow addicts who are also struggling to overcome their addiction. He is taken under the wing of Leonard (played by Billy Bob Thornton), a tough but caring counselor who guides him through the difficult detox process. Throughout his stay at the center, James battles withdrawal symptoms, faces his past traumas, and tries to come to terms with his addiction.

As he goes through the program, James begins to form close relationships with the other residents, including Lilly (played by Odessa Young), a fellow addict with whom he shares a connection. Despite the intense physical and emotional pain he experiences during his detox, James finds hope and redemption in the support and understanding of his peers.

The film tackles themes of addiction, trauma, recovery, and redemption, as James confronts his past and finds the strength to move forward. It received mixed reviews from critics but was praised for the powerful performances by the cast, particularly Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
