Mistaken Identity: Diamonds in Lisbon

The businessman in question is Steve (played by James Garner), who is in Lisbon for a business trip. One night, he meets a woman named Melanie (Melina Mercouri) at a party and ends up spending the night at her apartment. The next morning, Steve wakes up to find Melanie gone and a mysterious note left behind. Before he can figure out what's going on, he is suddenly accosted by a group of men who believe him to be a British spy named Michael London.
It turns out that Michael London had recently stolen a cache of diamonds and the men are convinced that Steve is in possession of them. Steve, of course, denies any involvement and tries to convince the men that they have the wrong guy. Unfortunately, his protests fall on deaf ears and the men start chasing him through the streets of Lisbon.
As if that weren't bad enough, Steve soon finds himself dealing with a variety of other complications. Melanie turns out to be a spy herself, working for the same agency that Michael London was suspected of betraying. Steve also meets an attractive photographer named Vicki (played by Sandra Dee) who becomes caught up in the chaos as well.
Together, Steve, Melanie, and Vicki must dodge the various groups that are after them, including a group of London's former colleagues and a gang of jewel thieves who also want the diamonds. Along the way, they get caught up in car chases, shootouts, and all sorts of other spy-related shenanigans.
In the end, the group is able to clear Steve's name and expose the real thief behind the stolen diamonds. Steve and Vicki end up falling for each other, while Melanie continues on with her espionage work. The movie ends on a lighthearted note, with Steve and Vicki dancing through the streets of Lisbon as the credits roll.
