Max Skinner, played by Russell Crowe, is a ruthless and successful stockbroker in London who inherits his uncle Henry's picturesque vineyard in Provence, France. As a child, Max spent his summers at the vineyard and has fond memories of his time there. However, he is initially disinterested in the property and plans to sell it as quickly as possible to make a profit.

Upon arriving in France, Max meets a young woman named Christie Roberts, played by Abbie Cornish, who claims to be his long-lost cousin and the rightful owner of the vineyard. Max is hesitant to believe her, but as they spend more time together, he begins to develop feelings for her. Along the way, Max also reconnects with Francis Duflot, the jovial and knowledgeable caretaker of the vineyard, played by Albert Finney.

As Max spends more time in Provence, he begins to appreciate the beauty and simplicity of the countryside lifestyle and starts to reconsider his priorities. He also learns some important lessons about family, love, and the importance of living in the moment.
