A Foreign Affair is a 1948 romantic comedy-drama film directed by Billy Wilder and starring Jean Arthur, Marlene Dietrich, and John Lund. Set in post-World War II Germany, the film follows Joint Congressional Committee officer Phoebe Frost (Arthur) as she arrives in Berlin to investigate the morale of American troops stationed there. Along the way, she becomes entangled in a love triangle with a U.S. Army captain, John Pringle (Lund) and a former Nazi cabaret singer, Erika von Schl端tow (Dietrich).
As Frost investigates the activities of Pringle's unit, she begins to suspect that they are smuggling goods on the black market. At the same time, she becomes attracted to Pringle, but he is already involved with von Schl端tow, who has captured his heart with her sultry performances at the apartment building where he lives.
As Frost tries to uncover the truth about the black market activities, she also finds herself drawn into the dark world of Berlin's nightlife and the seductive charms of von Schl端tow. Eventually, she realizes that Pringle is still in love with von Schl端tow and decides to leave the city.
