Abby (played by Jonna Walsh) is a young entrepreneur living in New York City who is desperate to secure funding for her start-up company. However, when a potential investor expresses a strong preference for backing companies from New England, Abby decides to fabricate a cover story, pretending that she is from the region.
To maintain the façade, Abby goes so far as to hide her Southern accent and act as though she knows everything about the area. However, her act becomes harder to maintain when she is invited to speak at a conference in her hometown of Lubbock, Texas.
As she prepares for the trip, Abby is forced to confront her past, including her complicated relationship with Ryan (played by Nathan Parsons), her high school sweetheart. Though they were once deeply in love, Abby and Ryan have been estranged for years, and their reunion is awkward and tense.
Over the course of the film, Abby struggles to balance her desire to impress her investor with the urge to be true to herself and her roots. She also must navigate the shifting sands of her relationship with Ryan, who may still harbor feelings for her.
Ultimately, Abby must decide whether to continue living a lie in order to succeed in business, or to embrace her true self, even if it means risking everything she has worked so hard to achieve.
