A Farewell to Arms is a 1957 drama film directed by Charles Vidor and starring Rock Hudson and Jennifer Jones. It is based on the novel of the same name by Ernest Hemingway.
The movie is set during World War I and follows the love affair between American ambulance driver Lieutenant Frederic Henry (Rock Hudson) and British nurse Catherine Barkley (Jennifer Jones). The two meet in Italy and quickly fall in love, but their relationship is complicated by the war around them.
As the war rages on, Frederic is transferred to another unit and eventually deserts the army to be with Catherine. The two flee to Switzerland, where they plan to start a new life together.
