The protagonist of the movie, Erica, was just a teenager when she gave up her daughter, Heather, for adoption. Years later, when Heather reaches out to her, Erica is more than happy to reconnect with her estranged child and begin building a relationship. However, things quickly take a dark turn when Erica discovers that Heather is not the loving daughter she hoped she would be.
Heather is revealed to be a sociopath, with a twisted sense of morality and an insatiable desire for control. As Erica tries to help her daughter navigate the world and overcome her issues, she realizes that Heather has no intention of changing. On the contrary, Heather uses her charm and manipulation skills to deceive and control those around her, including Erica's husband and other family members.
As the movie progresses, the tension builds and the danger becomes ever more palpable. Erica must decide whether to confront her daughter and risk her wrath, or to continue to play along with her twisted games in the hopes of keeping the peace. Ultimately, she must face the painful truth that Heather is not the child she always wanted, and that the only way to protect herself and her loved ones may be to cut ties with her daughter completely.
