A Common Man is a 2013 action thriller film directed by Chandran Rutnam and starring Ben Kingsley and Ben Cross. The plot centers on a terrorist (Kingsley) who plants several bombs throughout the city of Colombo, Sri Lanka and demands the release of four political prisoners or he will detonate the bombs.
The government officials, including Police Chief Dissanayake (Cross), are perplexed as they struggle to find the terrorist's motives and negotiate his demands. However, the terrorist seems to be always one step ahead of them and manages to keep the police forces at bay.
As the tension rises, the viewer is left wondering if Dissanayake will be able to stop the terrorist before it's too late and what the real motives of the terrorist are. The film poses ethical questions about the role of governments and justice, and the limits they should have in the face of extreme actions.
