Flik is an inventive ant who is constantly tinkering and coming up with new ideas to improve his colony's way of life. However, he often causes more problems than solutions and is considered a nuisance by his fellow ants. When the annual offering of food to the grasshoppers goes wrong, Flik decides to take matters into his own hands and recruits a group of circus bugs he mistakes for warrior bugs to help defend the colony.
Despite their lack of experience, the circus bugs, including a tough ladybug named Francis, a dim-witted caterpillar named Heimlich, and a stick insect named Slim, are determined to help Flik and the ants.
