Vic and Blood have a unique bond - Blood can communicate with Vic using his telepathic abilities, and the dog often serves as Vic's conscience. Despite being a skilled scavenger, Vic is driven by his carnal desires and often seeks out sexual companionship in the dangerous wasteland, which leads him into trouble with various factions of survivors.
One day, Vic and Blood come across an underground society known as Topeka, where they discover a society that seems almost too good to be true - a self-sustaining community that has managed to maintain a sense of normalcy even in the midst of the post-apocalyptic chaos. However, when Vic learns that Topeka has a dark secret, he must decide between staying and living a comfortable life or leaving and continuing to survive in the harsh wilderness with Blood by his side.
