The struggling couple, Dave and Linda, are in their early 40s and have been hit hard by the economic downturn. With bills piling up and no end in sight, they jump at the chance to live rent-free in a 55 and older community, thanks to a loophole in the rental agreement that allows for a couple to live with a senior.
Initially, things seem to be going well as they blend in with the elderly population and enjoy the amenities of the community. However, they soon realize that keeping up the charade is more difficult than they anticipated. They have to dye their hair, wear prosthetic wrinkles, and even fake illnesses to avoid suspicion. They also have to come up with creative ways to explain away their younger age, such as pretending to be the grandchildren of their "roommate."
As they spend more time in the community, Dave and Linda begin to develop relationships with their neighbors, who have no idea of their true identity. They start to realize the importance of community, something they had been missing in their own lives.
But when their secret is inevitably discovered, they face eviction and legal repercussions. They have to fight to stay in the community they have grown to love and try to find a way to make things right with their newfound friends.
55 & Older is a heartwarming comedy about the power of community and the lengths people will go to survive in tough times.
