Brian Bloom (played by Anton Yelchin) is a struggling young writer living in New York City who meets Anabelle Laurent (played by Bérénice Marlohe), a beautiful and sophisticated French woman. Anabelle is married to a diplomat and has two children, but she and her husband have an open marriage that allows each partner to have affairs between the hours of 5 to 7 p.m.
Despite the unconventional arrangement, Brian and Anabelle begin a passionate affair. They enjoy their time together exploring the city and discussing literature, but must constantly check the clock to avoid being caught by Anabelle's husband or anyone else who may recognize them.
As they continue their affair, Brian begins to fall in love with Anabelle and is torn between wanting to be with her all the time and accepting the limitations of their relationship. Anabelle, on the other hand, maintains her distance and reminds Brian that their time together is strictly limited.
As their 5 to 7 meetings become more risky and the realities of their situation set in, Brian and Anabelle must make difficult decisions about the future of their relationship. The film explores themes of love, marriage, and the complexities of human connection.
