The movie 36 Hours was released in 1965 and is a suspenseful war drama based on a story by Roald Dahl. The film follows the story of Major Jefferson Pike, an American intelligence officer who is kidnapped by German intelligence agents in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1944. He is then taken to a small German town where he is subjected to an elaborate ruse in an attempt to get him to reveal valuable information about the Allied invasion plans for Europe.

The German agents are led by a doctor named Gerber, who is part of the elaborate scheme. Major Pike is led to believe that he has been badly injured in an air crash and that he has suffered from amnesia since that time. As they try to convince him that the war has been over for six years, the Germans create a fake U.S. Army hospital and enlist the help of a sympathetic nurse to maintain the façade.

Major Pike starts to believe the charade, but not without sensing that something is not quite right. Meanwhile, Allied forces are launching an invasion of Europe in real-time, and in the dimly lit confines of the hospital, Pike begins to suspect that his memory is beginning to return to him. He desperately tries to piece together his recollection of events to foil the German agents' plan and make his escape to warn the Allies of the impending invasion.

As the plot unfolds, the tension builds to a thrilling conclusion in which Pike's race against time comes to a head. The movie 36 Hours is an intelligent, suspenseful thriller that keeps the viewer guessing until the end. It features a talented cast, including James Garner in the lead role, Eva Marie Saint as the nurse, and Rod Taylor as the German doctor. It is a must-see for fans of action-oriented war movies.
