35 Up

Documentary  United Kingdom

35 Up is a documentary film that is part of a series known as the Up Series. The film originally began in 1964, where filmmaker Michael Apted chose a group of 14 British children from diverse backgrounds and interviewed them about their lives, families, hopes, and dreams. The idea was to follow these children every seven years and document how their lives have changed and evolved over time.

35 Up picks up where 28 Up left off, with Apted revisiting the same group of individuals, who are now in their mid-thirties. Much has changed since the last time Apted interviewed them. Some have achieved their goals and aspirations, while others have faced setbacks in their personal and professional lives. The documentary offers a fascinating glimpse into the lives of these ordinary people, telling their stories of love, loss, struggle, and triumph.

As the interviewees reflect on their lives, they provide an honest and insightful commentary on the challenges and struggles they have encountered along the way. Some have had to overcome obstacles such as illness or family problems, while others have struggled to find a place in society.

Despite the differences in their experiences, all of the subjects share a common desire to live fulfilling lives. As they approach middle age, they are faced with the question of whether they have achieved their dreams and goals, or if there is still more to be done.

35 Up is a thought-provoking and moving film that invites viewers to examine their own lives and what they hope to achieve in the future. The documentary provides a unique insight into the human experience, and the universal desire for happiness and fulfillment, regardless of social background or circumstance.
