Saving Grace: Three Outlaws' Promise.

Western  United States of America

The movie 3 Godfathers is a Western drama film directed by John Ford and released in 1948. The story follows three outlaws, Robert Hightower (John Wayne), William Kearney "The Abilene Kid" (Harry Carey Jr.), and Pedro "Pete" Roca Fuerte (Pedro Armendรกriz), who rob a bank in the town of Welcome in Arizona, and are pursued by a posse through the desert. On their journey, they come across a wagon with a dying woman who had given birth to a baby. The woman, named Perley "Belle" Sweet, had been abandoned by her husband, and the three outlaws promise to take care of her baby.

Belle's dying wish was for her baby to be baptized and named after her husband, Robert. The three robbers stop at a nearby town named New Jerusalem, where they encounter both hostility and hospitality from the town folks. They also have to confront their own inner demons as they face obstacles such as hunger, thirst, and a desperate need for water as they journey through the harsh desert.

As they move further into the desert, the outlaws find themselves against insurmountable odds as they fight off both Native Americans and the posse trailing them. They also must protect the baby from the dangers of the desert. The movie takes an emotional turn as the outlaws grow attached to the baby and become determined to fulfill their promise to the dying mother.

In the end, the three outlaws make a valiant sacrifice to ensure the safety of baby Robert as they are found by the posse and face their ultimate fate. They leave the baby in the hands of the town folks, who realize the heroic act of the three men and honor them as their "godfathers". The movie ends with a touching scene of Indian tribesmen following the footsteps of the three godfathers.
