The movie "3 Faces" is a drama film directed by Jafar Panahi and starring Behnaz Jafari as herself. The story revolves around the plight of Marziyeh, a young girl from a village in northwest Iran, who dreams of becoming an actress but is prevented from pursuing her passion by her conservative family.
One day, Behnaz receives a distressing video from Marziyeh, in which she begs the actress to come to her village and help her convince her family to let her go to Tehran Theatrical University. Concerned for the girl's safety, Behnaz decides to cancel her shoot and travels to the village with Jafar Panahi, a filmmaker and a close friend.
As they journey through the scenic countryside, Behnaz and Jafar encounter various people, including a helpful truck driver, a farmer, and a young couple who offer them food and shelter. Despite the warm hospitality, the two visitors soon realize that the village is steeped in long-held customs and traditions that are often patriarchal and oppressive, especially towards women.
Once they arrive at Marziyeh's house, they find that her family is reluctant to let her leave and pursue a career in acting. The family patriarch, a stern and uncompromising man, considers acting to be a shameful profession for women and insists that his daughter get married and start a family instead.
However, Behnaz and Jafar do not give up and try to convince Marziyeh's family to change their minds. They meet with resistance at first, but eventually, they manage to persuade the family to let Marziyeh go to university and follow her dream.
The film addresses several social and cultural issues prevalent in Iranian society, including the challenges faced by women who dare to pursue careers in the arts and the conflict between modernity and tradition. It also showcases the beauty of the Iranian countryside and the warmth and generosity of its people, despite their conservative values.
