Drowning in Denial: Gwen's Fight Against Addiction

Comedy,Drama  United States of America

Gwen Cummings is a successful New York writer with a wild party lifestyle. She frequently drinks to excess, sometimes for days at a time, and often engages in risky behavior. One day, she attends her sister Lily's wedding while intoxicated and drives a stolen limousine into a house. Her court-ordered sentence is either 28 days in jail or 28 days in a rehabilitation center. Gwen chooses the rehab center, thinking that it will be easier than jail.

At the rehab center, Gwen initially refuses to participate in group therapy or follow any rules, and she sneaks in contraband items like cigarettes and candy. She starts to develop a friendship with her roommate, Andrea, who is addicted to heroin. Gwen's counselor, Cornell, tries to get her to take her recovery seriously, but she remains resistant.

Over time, Gwen begins to realize the extent of her addiction and the damage it has caused in her life. She starts to make positive changes and participate in therapy sessions. However, when she breaks the rehab center's rules by going on an unauthorized outing with Andrea and getting drunk, Gwen is expelled from the program.

After leaving rehab, Gwen returns to New York and tries to make amends with her family and friends. She attends Lily's baby shower and delivers a speech apologizing for her past behavior. She also reconnects with her ex-boyfriend, Eddie, and decides to give their relationship another chance. Gwen continues to attend meetings and maintain her sobriety, but she acknowledges that staying sober is a constant struggle.
