Rampaging Alien Terrorizes Italy's Capital

Science Fiction  United States of America

The movie 20 Million Miles to Earth was released in 1957 and was directed by Nathan Juran. It starred William Hopper, Joan Taylor, and Frank Puglia.

The story starts with the first manned space mission to Venus. The mission is successful, and the three astronauts return to Earth. However, during re-entry, their spacecraft encounters a strange atmospheric disturbance, causing it to crash-land into the Mediterranean Sea. The locals of a nearby Italian fishing village rescue Colonel Robert Calder, the mission commander, from the sinking spacecraft.

Meanwhile, a young boy named Pepe finds a small container that fell out of the spacecraft during the crash. Inside, he finds a living specimen of a strange, reptilian creature. The creature, which was native to Venus, grows rapidly, and Pepe becomes attached to it. However, it soon becomes clear that the creature is dangerous and needs to be contained.

The United States government sends a team of scientists, led by Dr. Paul Uhl, to recover the remaining Venusian specimens and capture the escaped creature. The creature grows to an enormous size and wreaks havoc in Italy before making its way to Rome, where it climbs up the Colosseum and causes a scene.

The climax of the movie takes place in Rome, where Calder and Uhl attempt to subdue the creature while preventing further destruction to the city. The movie ends on a bittersweet note, with the creature being killed but Pepe mourning the loss of his newfound friend.

Overall, 20 Million Miles to Earth is a classic science fiction film that combines elements of horror and adventure. It is well-regarded for its special effects, which were considered groundbreaking for their time.
