1911 is a historical drama film directed by Jackie Chan and Zhang Li and released in 2011. The film follows the events leading up to the Xinhai Revolution in China, which resulted in the overthrow of the Qing Dynasty and the establishment of the Republic of China.
The film depicts the struggles of the Chinese people under the Qing Dynasty, who have been oppressed by their rulers for centuries. The main character, Huang Xing, is a revolutionary who returns from Japan with a mission to overthrow the Qing Dynasty and establish a republic. He is joined by his fellow revolutionaries, including Sun Yat-sen and Zhang Zongchang.
As the revolution gains momentum, the Qing Dynasty becomes increasingly desperate to cling to power. Empress Dowager Longyu, the mother of the young emperor, resorts to brutal tactics to suppress the rebellion, including the use of torture and execution.
The film includes several battle scenes, including the Battle of Yangxia, in which the revolutionaries successfully defeat the Qing forces and take control of the city. The film ends with the establishment of the Republic of China and the beginning of a new era in Chinese history.
1911 is notable for Jackie Chan's performance as Huang Xing and for its accurate portrayal of the historical events leading up to the Xinhai Revolution. It is also the first Chinese film to be co-directed by a foreigner.
