12 Strong is a war drama film based on the non-fiction book Horse Soldiers by Doug Stanton. The movie depicts the events following the September 11 attacks on the United States where a team of 12 CIA operatives and US Army special forces, led by Captain Mitch Nelson, are sent to Afghanistan to capture or kill Taliban leaders and dismantle their control over the country.

The team, arriving just weeks after the attacks, is dropped into the remote and mountainous terrain of Afghanistan, where they link up with a local, Northern Alliance warlord named General Dostum. The two groups bond over their mutual hatred of the Taliban and form an unlikely alliance.

Together, they embark on a dangerous mission to capture the key Taliban stronghold of Mazar-i-Sharif, which would give the US and its coalition partners a significant strategic advantage in the war.

With little support from the US military and the odds stacked against them, the team and General Dostum's forces engage in a series of intense battles against the heavily armed Taliban fighters. Along the way, they face numerous obstacles, including harsh weather conditions and treacherous terrain.

Despite these challenges, the team manages to successfully capture Mazar-i-Sharif, dealing a crucial blow to the Taliban's control over Afghanistan.

The movie stars Chris Hemsworth as Captain Mitch Nelson, Michael Shannon as Chief Warrant Officer Hal Spencer, and Navid Negahban as General Dostum. It was released in January 2018 and received mixed reviews from critics. However, it was praised for its accurate portrayal of the events and the bravery of the soldiers involved.
