12 Rounds is a 2009 American action film directed by Renny Harlin and starring John Cena as Danny Fisher, a New Orleans Police Detective who must complete a series of challenges to save his girlfriend's life after a criminal mastermind seeks revenge on him.
The film begins with a heist led by master thief, Miles Jackson (Aidan Gillen), where he and his team steal a valuable prototype computer chip from a warehouse. During the heist, Fisher interrupts the robbery and a shootout ensues, causing Miles’ girlfriend, Erica Kessen (Taylor Cole), to be accidentally killed.
After being imprisoned for a year, Miles escapes from prison and sets up a series of challenges for Fisher to complete over the course of 12 rounds. The challenges are designed to test Fisher’s skills as a police officer and his abilities to think on his feet, such as rescuing hostages, defusing bombs, and driving a taxi through the streets of New Orleans.
As Fisher completes each round, he discovers that Miles has kidnapped his girlfriend, Molly Porter (Ashley Scott), and is using her as leverage to ensure Fisher completes the challenges. Fisher must use all of his knowledge and skills to outsmart Miles and save Molly before time runs out.
Throughout the film, Fisher is aided by his partner, Chuck (Brian J. White) and is constantly pursued by the other police officers who believe he is responsible for the chaos caused by Miles’ games.
The film concludes with a final showdown between Miles and Fisher as they battle it out on top of a crane overlooking the city. In the end, Fisher is able to defeat Miles and save Molly, bringing an end to the 12 rounds.
