12 Mighty Orphans is a sports drama film directed by Ty Roberts and based on the non-fiction book of the same name by Jim Dent. The film follows the true story of Rusty Russell (played by Luke Wilson), a high school football coach who takes on the challenge of coaching a group of orphans in Fort Worth, Texas during the Great Depression.
The orphans, who are living in the Masonic Home after being abandoned by their families, are initially seen as weak, undersized players who seem to have no chance of winning any games.
