The movie follows the plot of William Shakespeare's play "The Taming of the Shrew". Cameron, a new student at Padua High School, is immediately smitten with Bianca Stratford. However, her overprotective father forbids Bianca to date until her older sister Kat, known for her sharp tongue and aggressive behavior, also starts dating.
To solve this dilemma, Cameron enlists the help of his new friend, Michael, to find a guy who could potentially date Kat. They discover Patrick Verona, a mysterious and rebellious bad boy with a troubled past, who agrees to go out with Kat for the right price.
