Molly Moon is a young orphan who lives in an orphanage in England. She discovers a book on hypnotism, which she uses to hypnotize the staff at the orphanage and the other children to do her bidding. Molly later learns that her ability to hypnotize people is exceptional and she sets out to find her birth parents using her powers.
Meanwhile, a bank robber named Simon Nockman discovers Molly's hypnotism book and decides to use it to commit crimes. He tracks down Molly at the orphanage and demands she give him the book, but she refuses. Simon then takes Molly and the book to New York City where he plans to rob a bank using her hypnotism skills.
Molly manages to escape from Simon and uses her skills to get a job in a theater show. She becomes a successful hypnotist, but Simon continues to pursue her and the book. Molly, with the help of her friends and an eccentric theater owner, must use her hypnosis skills to stop Simon's plans and save the day.
Throughout the story, Molly learns about the importance of family, friendship and the responsibility that comes with possessing unique talents.
